Greenwich to Bexleyheath Quietway - Well Hall Road - Dunvegan Road

What do we want to know:

The Royal Borough of Greenwich are seeking views on the proposed road safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists at Well Hall Road/Dunvegan Road/Edith Nesbit Walk to extend  'Quietway 1' through the borough to Falconwood Station.

Description:

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is committed to providing high quality sustainable transport options for residents and visitors to the Borough. Walking and cycling reduce local air pollution and congestion, as well as improving public health.

Quietways are a London-wide network of safe, cross-borough quiet routes for cyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users as an alternative to the major roads.

The ‘Quietway 1’ route, which links Greenwich to Waterloo, is being extended through the Borough to create a link to Bexleyheath at Falconwood Station. A series of schemes along the route will create an enhanced environment for cyclists and pedestrians, improving road safety while reducing speed on the borough’s residential streets. These schemes will also have wider public realm benefits.

The scheme’s objectives are therefore to:

  • Improve road safety and reduce speed on Well Hall Road
  • Improve pedestrian and cyclists crossings at the junction of Well Hall Road and Dunvegan Road
  • Allow safer movements for vulnerable road users
  • Improve visibility for pedestrians crossing Well Hall Road
  • Provide better access to Well Hall Pleasaunce

The proposals include:

  • New crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists at junction of Well Hall Road and Dunvegan Road
  • New wide refuge islands to allow crossing in two stages at junction of Well Hall Road and Dunvegan Road
  • Raised table and narrower road lanes at junction of Well Hall Road and Dunvegan Road
  • A net loss of three parking spaces, five spaces will be removed and two will be created
  • Complying with Disability Discriminating Act guidelines the footways and pedestrian crossing facilities along this section will be upgraded to have tactile paving and wheel chair access
