Charlton Riverside conservation areas and locally listed buildings Consultation

What do we want to know:

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking the views of local residents, business owners and tenants, community groups and other stakeholders on the proposed location of two new conservation areas in Charlton Riverside and on the merits of buildings recommended for our Local Heritage List.

Description:

Have your say!

Royal Greenwich is proposing to create two new conservation areas in Charlton Riverside. We are also proposing to add several buildings in Charlton Riverside to our Local Heritage List.

The Royal Borough has a legal duty to make new conservation areas as well as to review existing conservation areas.

What are we consulting on?

We are consulting on the proposed locations of the new conservation area boundaries and on the merits of the buildings recommended for our Local Heritage List.  The consultation documents include a summary of the proposals as well as two maps showing the location of the draft boundaries and buildings proposed for local listing.

A historic characterisation of the area and the reasons behind these proposals are set out in the Charlton Riverside Employment and Heritage Study. This was published in June as part of the evidence base for the Charlton Riverside Masterplan SPD.

Why is this area important?

Charlton Riverside is an important area of the borough’s industrial heritage which has been previously overlooked in terms of historic research and protection. Designation is proposed to safeguard the remaining heritage features of the area and to ensure the area’s history is recognised and meaningfully enhanced in new development proposals.

How to respond

We would like your views on:

1. the proposed conservation area boundaries and the architectural and historic interest of the areas

2. the architectural, historic or environmental merits of the proposed locally listed buildings
