Disability Equality Scheme
What do we want to know:
To seek the views of the public, Council staff and community organisations on the draft Equality Scheme. See document attached to this listing.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 the Council has a legal duty to disabled people to: eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment related to their disability; promote equality of opportunity and positive attitudes towards disabled people; encourage participation in public life and take steps to meet their needs even if it requires more favourable treatment.
The scheme sets out how we intend to comply with our legal duties.
