The Royal Borough of Greenwich is proposing to create a new conservation area in Woolwich town centre. As the local authority, the Royal Borough has a legal duty to make new conservation areas where areas have been determined to be of special architectural or historic interest. The special architectural and historic interest of Woolwich town centre and the potential conservation area and local heritage listings were identified in a recent heritage appraisal commissioned by the Royal Borough: the Woolwich Town Centre Heritage Study (December 2018).
The Royal Borough is also proposing a number of buildings in Woolwich town centre for local heritage listing. Local heritage listing is a way for local communities to identify and celebrate historic buildings which enrich and enliven their area.
You can download a summary of the proposals and a map of the draft conservation area boundary and local heritage listings below.
All relevant comments will be considered. The consultation responses, with any resulting changes to the proposed conservation area boundary, will be reported back to the Royal Borough’s Cabinet with a concluding recommendation. A final decision will then be made on the designation of the conservation area and the local heritage listings.
Comments must be submitted by 5pm on 1 March 2019. All responses will be made publicly available. For further information please contact the Planning Policy Team via email at planning.policy@royalgreenwich.gov.uk
